The Pluma Project is meant to raise
awareness about domestic and sexual violence. The purpose of the project is to encourage survivors
to speak out and create a multilingual online forum of stories, art, poetry,
quotes, and whatever other medium helps tell their stories of survival. All submissions, including anonymous ones,
will be posted to the website: www.plumaproject.org.
Pluma means feather in Spanish: the idea being that feathers collectively make wings and we can become collectively stronger in the f(l)ight against violence. Feathers are also writing instruments, which symbolize one means of storytelling, and the word “pluma” is used to remember that violence does not assume the identity of one race, gender, language, culture or country. Ideally, this forum will gain momentum by its accessibility through well-established organizations, such as Womenspace, The UO Women’s Center, SASS, and whichever organizations want to help promote the new site. In order to bring the Pluma Project to the low-income, elderly, homeless and disabled communities that may not have access to computers, lockboxes will eventually be distributed throughout Lane County where hand-written and hand-drawn pieces may be left for pick-up. The Pluma Project is in its initial phases of organization. If you would like to help, promotion of the project to schools, churches, elderly homes, homeless shelters, college students (LCC, UO, etc), DV shelters, prisons, businesses, etc is vital to the project’s growth. Once posters and fliers are created, community support will be crucial. If you are affiliated with an organization, group, or business that can link the URL to an existing website, please feel free to do so. If you work in a place where a lockbox is appropriate for submissions, please contact us and we will get one to you. At this point, please pass word on to others! Please forward any questions, ideas, or submissions to email@plumaproject.org. Thank you! |
